Mire is a display typeface developed from the letters M.I.R.E discovered in Michael Twyman’s book Printing: 1770-1970 (London, British Library, 1970). This extra bold typeface speaks by its roundness and its ornament glyphset of its time; wood-type printing at the end of the 19th century. This rich period in fancy typefaces flourishes at the birth of advertising, during an improvement in the quality of printing equipment. With Mire, the stake of the interpretation of these four letters was above all around its imposing serifs, between which the letter is drawn. Its title comes obviously from the four original letters, which evoke a shooting target, —from where the french expression “to have in line of sight” comes from— and then celebrates the disposition that have the display typefaces to be pointed out. We took care to develop also a large set of contemporary ornament glyphs to play with and transform it into frames.
